The Walk to the Sella Hut Starts in the Lovely Valnontey Valley near Cogne

The 900m climb to the hut is sustained but on pleasant paths and takes 2-3 hours.

The Path Network Around the Sella Hut is Extensive

With the famous Aosta long distance footpath 'Alta Via 2' passing by the hut en route to the Col Lauson (3296m) at the head of this valley.

Superb Wildlife Watching Opportunities Around the Sella Hut

Huge amounts of Chamois, Ibex, Marmotte & mountain birds were in close proximity to the hut for our visit. Here Ibex / Bouquetins are seen against the backdrop of the Eastern side of the Valnontey Valley

The Rifugio Sella is a Great Base Camp for Walking, Climbing, Relaxing & Eating!

En route to the Col de la Noire at Dawn

This ascent comprises of C. 400m of ascent on footpaths of diminishing size followed by a couple of hundred metres of steep snow leading to the fine Col itself, excellent views and easy access (down to the right) to the fine upper Trajo Glacier.

Starting up the Scrambling on the SE Face of the Grivola (3969m), Italian Alps

With much early morning verglass in evidence from the previous days melt & overnight freeze. Easier climbing conditions would be found in dry conditions.
