La Pépite, (M4, 300m) Les Grands Montets

The Opening Pitch With The Ambiance of the Argentiere Basin

Lean conditions in mid March 2015, some good snow & ice but some loose rock also.

Steady Mountaineering Ground With The Occasional More Technical Section

This open natural groove line runs above the 1st belay and continues in to a sporting technical chimney section. This may be the Chimney system left of Pepite although it gives good climbing with a peg at the start of the more sustained climbing and lots of natural gear during the harder climbing section.

The Sustained Chimney Section

Good climbing with good gear....but possibly not actually Pepite!!

Fine Scenic Belay Stance Above the Chimney Section

With the Aiguille de Chardonnet across the Argenitiere Glacier

This Route Tops Out On the NE Ridge of the Petite Verte

Before the main difficulties so the descent consisted of some careful but straightforward down climbing & crossing a small crevasse. A very quick & easy descent today!

Final Pitch to the Petite Aiguille Verte NE Ridge

From here a quick descent is possible back to the Grands Montets or equally a continuation to the summit of the Petite Verte - or even the Aiguille Verte itself if you're really really keen!
