Superb Views Through the Couteray Woods En Route to the Col de la Terrasse

With the 4 big North Faces of the Argentiere Basin stacked up on the centre left of the picture - Triolet, Courtes, Droites, Verte

The Lovely Open Meadows Of Loriaz Link the Woods With the Upper Slopes of the Col

In summer the chalets of Loriaz provide a magnet for walkers but in winter they remain snow covered & tranquil. The views are superb in either season!

The Sustained Slopes Above the Loriaz Meadows - Looking South in to the heart of the Mont Blanc Massif

A series of kick turns give access from the upper comb to the boot track leading to the col itself. There is another fine steeper slope and col just to the west which various teams had also skinned up & skied down

The Final Slopes to the Col de la Terrasse

With the steeper alternative on the left. Good spring conditions in Mid March 2014

Good Spring Snow Requires Good Timing

We started the descent at around 1130 which was about right - a little too late perhaps - but most teams were still going up and would surely have skied pretty heavy soft snow for much of the descent. As the aspect shifts from SE at the top to slightly more SW lower down & then is shaded by the trees there is the possibility of skiing perfect spring snow all the way down the 1300m descent!
