Mont Maudit 4465m

Mont Maudit's 'Frontier' (South East) Ridge

Also called the Kufner Arete

Mont Maudit Summit From Mont Blanc

The peak can be climbed by either its NW or NE ridges and thus a traverse can be made with an ascent of one and descent of the other. Both climbs are AD- and exposed climbs on a very high mountain, only somewhat overshadowed by it's even bigger immediate neighbour, Mont Blanc!

High On The Kuffner Arete Of Mont Maudit

Having climbed the little north face above Col Maudit to access this fine upper section of Frontier Ridge and before embarking on the delicate traverse over to Mont Maudit summit.

The Superb But Delicate Snow Ridge Linking The Kuffner Arete To Mont Maudit Summit

A delicate balance was struck here between the steep icy slopes on the French side of the ridge and extensive cornice on the Italian side. Precise crampon work required! Mid July 2017.
