19 November 2017, Megeve, Berarde Valley & Early Season Ski Conditions

The extensive snow fall last Sunday night / Monday morning made a big difference to the snow volume in the middle and high mountains and numerous early season opportunist ski teams have been out making the most of it.   Whilst there is not a good base below at least 2500m there are some fun turns to be had in deep, soft, cold powder snow and we did some laps around Megeve Cote 2000m above the Altiport.

Fun early season turns in shady soft snow at Megeve Cote 2000m, Nov 2017

The cover was reasonable from a couple of ski pitches above the car park and many teams had been out skinning and skiing on the grassy pistes and slopes around the closed lift system.

Over in the Berade Valley above Le Buet, Vallorcine, hardy touring teams have been walking up the rocky lower path and skinning / skiing above the Refuge Berade and up to the Col and even high on Mont Buet where there is some fine snow albeit with a highly varied / shallow base / plenty of grass / heather / rocks!
