Alan has lived in Fort William, at the foot of Ben Nevis for 45 years and it’s fair to say that, in that time he has ‘been round the block and back’ a few times! Alan previously ran the hugely successful & popular ‘West Coast Mountain Guides’ and nowadays works on an occasional basis for other mountain professionals.
We are proud to collaborate with Alan on our Alpine Mountaineering training courses based in the Western Scottish Highlands. Alan knows the Lochaber area like the back of his hand and has spent many summers guiding in the Alps so is the perfect person to run these courses!
Alan and his wife Sue run ‘Calluna’, a 26 bed self-catering property in Fort William for all outdoor groups, families and individuals which has a great reputation for providing friendly & good value accommodation for climbers, walkers, paddlers, cyclists and all outdoor enthusiasts. The bunkhouse not only has a famously good drying room it also has a bouldering wall and lecture room. This is a great base camp for our alpine training courses in the Highlands.
For the final summary, over to Alan himself…..
“I have climbed extensively in Scotland and the Alps as a mountain professional and with good friends. Sea paddling and cycle touring, plus photography are amongst my other interests. Anything that has a flavour of adventure and fun with good people involved.”
David Wookey, Scottish Winter Mountaineering Long Weekend, March 2014
James and I had a fantastic time last week in the snow in Scotland. I am still on a major high, and wishing I was back in the mountains. Many thanks for organising the course for us, and in particular in arranging for Alan to act as our guide for the week. As you say, a legend and a pleasure to spend time with. We learnt a huge amount about the mountains in winter, thoroughly enjoyed our time on the hills, and valued his patient and expert tuition.
In short a wonderful experience and already looking forward to a return trip ! Thanks again for arranging it all.
