Mid winter mountaineering and Mt Blanc training in the Northern Cairngorms. Wonderful conditions in early February
Our Climb Mont Blanc & mountaineering courses are planned around the start and end of the main summer alpine climbing season and also run in to the early autumn. Although the challenge can be harder at these times of year, we prefer the slightly quieter, cooler, snowier conditions that often exist then. In addition, the stone fall risk in the Grand Couloir is often much lower than in the hot mid summer months.
- Our 6 day courses generally feature a 3 day training and acclimatisation phase, often with another major summit attempt
- For example you can choose a training climb featuring either the Gran Paradiso, Weissmies or Lagginhorn as well our very early season option & 3 day Mont Blanc training course
- We also run some Mont Blanc warm up phases that feature more technical terrain on a 1:2 guiding ratio and these give a great experience to those thinking about climbing the Matterhorn in the future.
- Our courses generally also feature a rest day between the training and summit periods, allowing you to recuperate, relax and enjoy some low altitude time in Chamonix before heading back in to the high mountains for the summit attempt
- We also generally climb early in the week and aim to avoid the busy Saturday night in huts and classic later in the week summit schedules. Combining this with the early and late season ascents often means the mountain & huts are less busy than in high summer
Our series of training weekends in the UK – Snowdonia & The Scottish Highlands are highly recommended and you can check the dates for those below the main Mont Blanc summit courses here:
