Jonny Baird

Jonny’s passion for the mountains started where (and when) he grew up on the West Coast of Scotland. As many have found before and since the Scottish Highlands are an exacting yet superb place to serve a mountaineering apprenticeship resulting in many tough, talented and ‘wily’ mountaineers, like Jonny! After many years of rock climbing in Glencoe and ice climbing on Ben Nevis Jonny now lives in the Arve Valley, French Alps.

A great location, close to the fine peaks of the Mont Blanc Massif and the skiing and rock climbing of the Chamonix and Arve Valleys.

Jonny is keen to share his passion and knowledge of the mountains with you, and to make it fun – whether it’s skiing, ski mountaineering, rock climbing, alpine climbing or winter alpinism, you are sure to find him happy just by being in the mountains. Catch him while you can, in his continuing thirst for adventure and fun, Jonny doesn’t waste a minute of time. When he’s not working he will be skiing in the powder, away climbing one of the icy north faces of the alps or most likely enjoying sport climbing in a sunny spot with friends in one of the many superb venues in the area (or, more often these days, out on the road bike!).

  • Jonny has a long apprenticeship of hard alpine climbing with ascents of many of the classic hard North Faces of the Alps such as the Eiger, Colton Macyntire (Grandes Jorasses North Face), Matterhorn, Droites etc.
  • Having spent several winter seasons climbing on the famous ice fall of the Canadian Rockies Jonny had a background of hard ice climbing including an early repeat ascent of the Definitive Hard Route of the Canadian Rockies ‘Sea of Vapours’
  • Impressive Extreme Rock tick list, especially on the mountain rock of the Scottish Highlands with on-sight ‘trad’ ascents up to British E5 6a
  • Jonny runs his own private guiding business and some courses & you can check his website here.

Alex and John Godwin, Gran Paradiso Course, Sept 2016

Sorry for the late reply, we just got home yesterday from the French Riviera.

Thankfully both John and I fully recovered now, although it took a good week after our climb before we could walk properly again!  We had an amazing time, as Johnny would call it ” level 2 fun”. I can honestly say it was the hardest I have ever pushed myself in my life in terms of endurance and perseverance.

Thank you again, I cant explain how much fun we had 😊
