Val Feret & Rifugio Bonatti Ski Touring Weekend 🇮🇹 Feb 2023
February 18 - February 19
This is a very popular weekend featuring an intro to ski touring in the wonderful Italian Val Feret with a base camp at the superb Rifugio Bonatti. A ski touring treat not to be missed! This weekend is designed to give you a fun and informative insight into the magical world of ski touring. It picks up from our January weekend course and offers 2 action packed days, featuring satisfying ascents on skins, remote off piste skiing, technical training and generally enjoying the atmosphere of this fantastic area where the Monte Bianco Massif meets the upper Val d’Aosta.
We run three separate weekends in January, February and March and whilst each course is an intro, with no prior touring experience required, doing all three would give a great opportunity to learn, practice, consolidate and develop your ski touring skills in 3 superb different locations. The February and March weekends are both quite physical and all touring takes place without the use of lifts – just skinning power to truly earn our turns in these wonderful areas…
Our January course makes the most of the deep winter snow pack and is based in Chamonix to take advantage of the lifts, trees and hopefully ski some great powder. The February courses heads to the scenic south side of the Mont Blanc range and tours in the lovely Italian Val Feret with the comfortable Rifugio Bonatti as Base Camp. In March the spring touring season is underway and the weekend is based at the remarkable Grand St. Bernard Monastery run by the hospitable monks. This gives a great opportunity to explore this classic ski touring area on the Swiss – Italian Alpine border.
- Enjoy 2 days ski touring in the superb Val Feret in the Italian Alps
- Spend a night in an Italian mountain hut

Each of our intro touring weekends blend a great mix of satisfying ascents on skins, fun & remote off piste skiing and completing some fine journeys whilst undertaking some important training along the way…

It was an amazing weekend! Rachel
Can’t believe I’ve not been here before! Kevin (The Guide!)
The intro touring weekend in Val Feret was excellent. I had a really enjoyable time building touring experience with a fun & friendly group in the hands of our very capable and inspiring guide Kev. Snow conditions weren’t always with us but Kev still led us to some great skiing and a sense of accomplishment with both days. I’d recommend this weekend to anyone looking to get into or build confidence with their touring. Guy Jarvis

Fitness, Off Piste Skiing & Touring Experience Required – Intro Weekends
These weekends are physically demanding but are not aimed at being major endurance events. However you do need to be fit and able to climb steadily uphill (250-300m per hour) on skins for up to around 4 hours maximum. During the March weekend there is a day with around 1000m of ascent skinning but the Jan and Feb weekends are generally more like 3-500m and 7-800m hundred metres although this can feel hard work in soft snow!
This is a course for folk who can already ski with confident linked short radius turns on pisted black runs and who have some existing experience successfully descending off-piste terrain and variable snow conditions in a controlled manner.
