After months of training in the UK and Alps we were delighted to get 4 out of our 6 guests on a company Matterhorn project to the summit yesterday. On what may prove to be the last day of normal ‘summer’ conditions before late June 2018, we were delighted to get the boss and 3 employees to the summit via the Hornli Ridge aller retour. The other 2 guests were not quite ready for the Matterhorn but brilliantly also both managed to climb both Pollux and Breithorn traverse instead. So a good company celebration meal was had at Schwarzsee last night.
Conditions were still quite snowy on the ridge but with a good track in the snow and temperatures staying relatively cool, the snow stayed stiff enough to provide reasonable conditions for the descent also.
The team had done our Matterhorn training weekends in the Scottish Highlands in winter & spring and Snowdonia in early summer as well as some private guiding in Chamonix. The training & preparation paid off yesterday – Well done team!
Back in the Chamonix Valley the good early autumn weather provided some fine days for Fiona enjoying climbing on Hotel California, Brevent; The Traverse of the Aiguilles Crochues and a great multi pitch day at Les Cheserys and fun ascent of the iconic Chamonix Valley needle, the Aiguillette d’Argentiere.
