Gavin Pike

Gavin is an IFMGA Mountain Guide who has lived in the Chamonix valley for the past eight years. From a background in trad rock climbing and Scottish winter climbing in the UK, he has gravitated to the wonderful mountain playground that is the Mont Blanc massif…

Gavin has climbed and ski toured extensively in the Western Alps, and enjoys the challenge and commitment of alpine north faces. Ascents over the past ten years include:

  • Walker and Croz Spurs, and Colton-MacIntyre, north face of the Grandes Morasses
  • Cecchinel-Nomine, Grand Pilier d’Angle
  • Peuterey Integrale
  • North face of the Matterhorn
  • North face of Les Droites
  • Supercouloir, Mont Blanc du Tacul

His exploratory nature extends to the Greater Ranges, where he has opened new routes in Alaska, and attempted unclimbed faces in Nepal.

Gavin has a relaxed, patient and encouraging personality, and loves sharing the experience of the next big adventure in the mountains…

Tom Vear, Gran Paradiso June 2019

Thank you for the great services you and your excellent team provided to me in the mountains. The Summit of Gran Paradiso and the supporting training was one of the most enjoyable experiences I have ever had. Both Clement and Gavs unwavering enthusiasm, skill and ability to impart knowledge was absolutely first class

Esme O’Neil-Dean, Gran Paradiso & Mont Blanc Course, June 2015

I just wanted to thank you for organizing a great GP/MB course – both Ben & Gav were excellent guides and I really enjoyed the experience of climbing with them.
I definitely hope to return for another HMG outing in the future so I’m sure we’ll be in touch, but for now – thank you very much; it was a great course and very well organized.
Enjoy the rest of your week! Esmé

Melvyn Young, Chamonix Mountaineering Private Guiding Spring Weekend, April 2017

I still have a big smile on my face and of course many stories to bore my family with.

Great photo’s thank you, and so many thanks again for a fantastic week end. The whole event for me was exactly what I hoped for, a personal experience to remember, a very real introduction to mountaineering, and top guiding and coaching that meant I felt safe at all times.

All very professionally delivered throughout the booking and admin process etc, so one very happy novice mountaineer who now wants to build on the experience, and to look forward to future opportunities. At the risk of embarrassing Gav, I am chuffed I got so much out of the w/e, all of which was down to his calm coaching that gave me the confidence to get onto the rock, and I definitely will be thinking about future training and climbing trips with you guys.

I will keep in touch.  Safe travels and climbing,  Melvyn

Steve Turner, Chamonix Off Piste Guiding, Feb 2017

Just to let you know we had a successful day with Gavin today. As you said, great guy to be in the mountains with and he gave my missus all the reassurance and confidence she needed to perform admirably. Not the greatest conditions but then it did give a taste of the high mountains and I’m not sure I’d have actually got my wife onto the arete if she’d been able to see it from the cable car on the way up!
Thanks for putting it together.  A la prochaine.
Steve
